Laser Leg Vein Removal & Treatments

Imagine beautiful legs free from unsightly leg veins?

Until now treating spider & varicose veins was a drawn out procedure involving invasive treatments such as needles. Now by using new technologies from Harmony XL & vascuLight systems, most types of unpleasant leg veins are successfully treated, by non-invasive processes.

What leg vein variations could receive treatment?

The dark blue veins that are found on the leg are known as varicose veins. Varicose veins can be treated yet they require a different form of treatment to the discoloured clusters found near the surface known commonly as spider veins. Therefore, several different light & laser technologies may be required for best results. It can depend completely upon the veins of the individual but the doctor could opt to use either one or more when receiving your treatment. This is now a treatment that is non-invasive for the patient.

What technology is used for blue veins that are deeper?

The laser 1064ND Yag system used by the laser can be effective in delivering treatment to the bigger veins that tend to run much deeper (known as reticular veins). It is the exact level of light and its wavelength that makes the veins respond to the treatment. What actually occurs? Well, the tiny, almost miniscule laser light spot is sent into the skin surface and is then slowly absorbed by all the blood that is contained inside the vein. Following this the heat ensures that the blood either clots or in coagulates and disappears over the following weeks.

This leg vein removal process does not affect any of the surrounding area tissue. Over a period of time, the body will absorb the vein and will fade away from sight (approx 6-12 weeks).

Are different veins such spider or surface veins treated the same way?

Superficial and smaller structures need a slightly different method for treatment to be successful and is not classed as a laser at all. Small surface veins can be treated by utilizing light energy. Light energy is found around this area can often by absorbed slowly by the bloodstream, changing to heat, and then the vein is gradually destroyed. This IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) method is very effective on treating smaller veins. With these technologies, your doctor has the tools to use exactly what is needed to achieve the best result.

How many treatments are needed?

It can be very common for the veins in the patients leg to require repeated treatments. These sessions may take place over a period of months only ending when the treatment has had the desired effect. It must be remembered that even the smaller vessels of blood need the right amount of time to be resolved. Although the treated area will look significantly better, it can occur that the region will appear slightly stained as a result of the laser. However, this side effect is common and our doctors have treatments in place that can restore the area to its original shade thus reversing the effects of discolouration.

What’s a leg vein treatment like? Can it hurt?

An Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) energy or pulse of laser could feel similar to a pinch feeling that could be compared to a rubber band snapping. By applying gel on the skin area which is chilled and other methods which prevent irritation. The entire process is short and not invasiveas there are no needles used.
